Dale Herboldt : President of Northwest Red Angus Association

Brian Heinze
President of Northwest Red Angus Association

Welcome to the Northwest Red Angus Association Website!

Fellow Northwest Red Angus Breeders:

It’s hard to believe the Christmas and New Years holidays have already passed, and that we are over one month into the New Year. My hope is that everyone had wonderful holidays, and I wish you a successful 2009 calving season.

I want to take this opportunity to express thanks to all of you who had the confidence to elect me NWRAA President for the 2009 – 2010 term. It is an honor, and I will do all I can to continue the tradition of excellent direction we have experienced in the past. My personal thanks to Dale Herboldt for his exceptional service as NWRAA President the past two years. Under his leadership, the Association continued to grow and flourish. His hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated. Thanks Dale!

This last year has been especially productive under the NWRAA leadership. Firstly, we established separate committees for the Bet-On- Red Sale and the Red Western Classic Show. This will allow the NWRAA to focus on more long term and strategic planning to continue our current rate of growth. Thanks to the hard work of Treasurer Ronda Avery, our association is in good financial health. Lastly, NWRAA Secretary Mary Malloy has updated and continues to maintain our website with current information on important association news. Thanks Mary!

Last fall, the association put on another successful Red Western Classic Show and Bet on Red Sale in Reno. Both events continue to grow and prosper and are recognized as premier Red Angus events, not only in the West, but among Red Angus breeders nationwide.

Furthermore, our junior program continues to grow, due to the efforts of Ronda Avery and her team of Junior Advisors. As we are all aware, our youth are our future. Continue to get the word out, and encourage all youth to become involved in these Junior Red Angus activities.

I am incredibly enthused about the upcoming year. The Red Angus breed continues to thrive, as more and more commercial producers recognize the economic advantages of the breed - highly maternal cows, and bulls that are always ready to work. What more could the industry desire? However, as we are all aware, in this challenging economic period, we must aggressively continue to promote the breed and market our cattle.

As an association we are fortunate to have a cohesive group with outstanding leadership. The Officers and Board of Directors for 2009 are:

President: Brian Heinze (Oregon);
Vice President: Jeff Chatburn (Idaho);
Secretary: Mary Malloy (Idaho)
Treasurer: Ronda Avery (Oregon)

Directors:
Mark Mitchell (Oregon)
Roger Koller (Washington)
Verl Dial (Idaho)
Merle Eakin – Director at Large (Oregon)
Carl Lautenschlager – Director at Large (Washington)

My sincerest thanks to each of our board members for their service, and I encourage all Red Angus breeders to become more involved in the Northwest Red Angus Association. Whether you’re interested in serving as a board member, or serving on the Bet on Red Sale Committee or the Red Western Classic Show committee, we have a place for you! Please contact me, or one of the officers or directors listed above.

This summer we will travel to Washington State for our ranch tour and summer meeting. As more details become available, we will keep you posted. Our 2009 annual meeting will again be held in Reno in conjunction with the show and sale. Please plan to attend, as new board members will be elected, and important issues requiring a membership vote will be discussed at that meeting.

I look forward to working with all of you for another successful year!

Best Regards,
Brian Heinze
President, NWRAA
